Space, the final frontier.
These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its 5-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.
The Star Trek franchise is something that’s near and dear to my heart. Regardless of what’s going on in the world, in life or at work, I know I can put on an episode from any of the five live action series and escape — if only for an hour. Usually that’s all it takes to help me level out and get my head back in the game.
For the past six years, I’ve traveled West to shoot one of the largest genre conventions in the world; the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention. The annual event takes place over four days in late August at the Rio Suites Hotel (formerly at the Las Vegas Hilton). Some of the guests who I’ve had the opportunity to photograph include: William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, Scott Bakula, Zachary Quinto and Jonathan Frakes.
Having the ability to photograph these actors and hear them speak in a natural environment has given me insight into their lives, their beliefs and their approach to playing the iconic characters that they’ve brought to life on screen.
